Title says it all. planted 3 elephants ears in the garden last summer, from a neighbours divisions. They are being eaten to death I think by vine weevil (have seen black beetles scuttling off it) it also has not flowered this spring - is this also the vine weevil? do they eat the flowers? another pest or just no flowers produced? they also haven't grown and spread as I had expected, I think it's too dry where they are. Any help with this one would be appreciated. I've just planted Hostas in the same area and wonder if they may suffer the same fate. Many thanks Elliegreenwelly xx

P.S it seems everywhere I go I see great flowering clumps of them, but not in my garden :(

Vine weevil adults are dusty black, not shiny black and they eat round holes in the edges of leaves, not the flowers.

my bergenias haven't flowered yet, they are in full shade so they are always quite late
Do your plants look otherwise healthy?
Bergenias can stand dry conditions, even though they won't possibly grow much, there are some growing by our supermarket in full sun and they never get water -they are still alive and in full blossom, but they stay small

Thank you for your replies. yes aside from being eaten they are otherwise healthy but I see nothing resembling a flower on them, maybe next year...

Mine are only just starting to show buds too hidden well among the leaves, they normally put on a good show but last year every single flower was eaten by something ,just as they were about to flower :thud:, we do get a lot of rabbits in the garden but its not something they've ever bothered with before, its a mystery  , hope whatever it was leaves them alone this year :hate-shocked: ,I split a few pieces off mine the year before last and planted round the garden no flowers last year but this year they're showing a few so maybe they just take a while to settle, fingers crossed for you next year Ellie :)
