We currently have a 10x8 Aluminium greenhouse but weve been offered a 12x10 from the farther in law and (2 days later) another 12x10 from my dad Were looking to get rid of the 10x8 and put the 2 12x10`s end to end - what I want to know is can we bolt both ridge pieces to the front of the second greenhouse and not bother with the back for the first greenhouse In effect make one 24x10 greenhouse with a division in the middle - has anyone done this or will the roof be too heavy for the central wall ? Carl
Sounds a great idea Carl...it'll make a great growing space....but i'd be inclined to have some supports in the center....all that glass scares me...i'm thinking snow...and the weight....
Simple answer is yes, the weight of roof will exceed support capability of the structure as is. You can add in support but it may be more of a hassle than just accepting the extra wall of the second greenhouse. Oh, also - you lucky bugger!
im not intending on having no center wall just one with a door through - so it will be suported but just by one - ive had a thought of putting the other end wall about 4 feet in from the end so we can get it really hot in the summer for some different stuff
You should be able to fit them front to back and remove the centre struts in the back. There should be no problem using the centre door and I can't see any design change issue, other than possibly having to drill through the frame if they don't fit hole-hole. I can see it creating extra heat anyway due to the shared wall reducing losses.
Our 16 by 8 feet one which is two joined together has stood for 16 years here and 8 years at our previous house. Been moved three times too!
It's doesn't appear to have mentioned that these 2 greenhouses are both of the same make/model/profile - so just checking in case they're not.
Also, why not add your 8' x 10' to make it a three section 32' x 10'? Then you can have three different climate zones. Might as well be ambitious!
Hi there. I did that once, join two together. Looking at what Palustris has done, mine was pretty much the same. It was just a case of bolting the two ends together. This involved trimming the 'ally' section on one of the ends, but was pretty straight forward. IMO, it was plenty strong enough, stood for a few years with no hint of weakness. As others have said, the thing to do would be to have two seperate sections, one heated (when necessary) and one un-heated, which I found very useful. No point in heating an empty space. Cheers...Freddy.
My two are same width, and manufacturer, but different profile. I have them back-to-back, but not actually open-through, thus I have a door at either end.
I dont know if there the same brand - havent got room for the 10 x 8 as wekk plus it will be different height
They all vary in size, even different '8 x 10' models by the same manufacturer, and to further complicate matters, they may also be on different height bases.
