Have you tried going to a Supermarket till and offered the odd change with a note to a cashier under 40. (sorry if that is ageist)
Bill is £12.11p for example. Hand over £20 and ask "can I give you the 11p".
Almost always the answer is:- "It's Ok. Got plenty of change"
What I meant was "I'm trying to get less change in my pocket"
What the operator meant was "I've already keyed in the note value and the till has told me the amount of change. I can't work out anything different"
Get an "older generation" operator and the respond with "OK. Thank you" and sort it out in their head. - mind you, they - like me - would have had to sit every week and recite times tables etc., work things out on paper and use "Mental Arithmetic".
Ask a modern student what Mental Arithmetic is and see what answer you get!

I don't ask them. I just give them the money and watch their faces. They get very confused if the bill is £1.72 and I give them £2.22 :yikes: :heehee:

            Claralou QUOTE
"Are you having a party, Jack"

Only at home on my own, my lunch time pals gave me a retirement pressy today of amongst other things a nice bottle of Talisker ten year old Malt :-)

When I get home on Friday night I will sit with it and reflect on the past 50 years of work without a break (apart from the stroke episode for six months in 2002)

I left school on the Friday and commenced employment on the Monday, and have worked (being employed) every day since to quit at 65

I am looking forward to my new garden venture, and the Gym, and I already miss the 300 miles a day driving in my previous employ reducing to 60pd in my current job
to go down to NIL will be a shock and withdrawl symptoms
