I was on the bus the other day travelling through a neighbouring village and happen to notice a wisteria that was more or less in full flower  ; I think its possibly the earliest I have seen one in flower. There are others around our neighbourhood that are only just starting to show their flower buds.

With the mild winter and spring we're having it's not really surprising plants are flowering earlier Bilbo. Plants seem to be putting on a display to with loads of blossom. :)

They are in full bloom here at the moment, so you must be very mild there also Michael. They are so lovely but I find they take up so much room and have such a short blooming period that I have never planted one. Actually, now that I think of it, I did have some seeds years ago and they may be lurking in a box somewhere as I discovered they can take up to ten years to bloom ... :rolleyespink:

Better off buying a grafted plant *in flower* Victoria as seed grown plants are known to notoriously flourish for years and never flower

It does seem early for it to be flowering.

I have one on my pergola which didn't flower very well - until I pruned it properly and now it's got loads of flower buds on for the first time so am really looking forward to it flowering because there are few more beautiful sights than Wisteria in its full glory [IMG]

I bought a granted one for the side of the garage last year, pruned it properly but it's not going to flower this year.

In the little village 6kms from me where I get my post there is a little square lined with Wisteria and filled with Cercis siliquastrum, both of which are in bloom at the moment and it looks so lovely. Must try and get a picture before they finish. Last year they cut the Wisteria back so hard, I thought they had actually removed it from the arches ... but it quickly came back. :spinning:

Not seen any round here yet Bilbo. So pretty early I would say.

        Perhaps on a warm wall??:)

I bought one last year from our local garden centre but no sign of growth as yet.

Hi, we planted a wisteria in a large container the year before last. It took a beating from some windy weather so we moved the container but it has still failed to take off ! By 'take off' I mean it just isn't showing any signs of thriving. It gets new growth but doesn't develop much.
Any tips on soil conditions, positioning e.t.c. ?

Not sure wisteria is a good container plant Gazania.:)
Its quite a large climber and needs a lot of space.
