Very very emotional 02 very very emotional.... Just waiting for a call & it is agony.. Now because she is alive but I have no details yet.... Thank you so much everyone for your kind thoughts & prayers.. Hopefully we made a difference... Now I just hope many more people will be found alive... My prayers really turn to the rest of the people oin Haiti everywhere... You know it isn't just Port au Prince there is utter devastation South East & West of the city of Port au Prince right across the country to the west coast....

Strongy you are so right the Dominican has come off relatively unscathed & are helping as much as possible from that direction too I have heard that & thankful they are able to do so much as they can from that side.....

I have had a call from her brother & this is what he has been told.. It is definitely her & she & 3 other colleges were already on the road when the earth quake struck..!!!!!
They managed to get word out via a Save the children colleges who walked back to the nearest town for help & supplies when they realised what had happened...
Luckily they are all uninjured but had to abandon their vehicle as the road was impassable so walked back to the village they had just come through.. Apparently there is hardly a building left standing & immediately set to work to do what they could to help the trapped with the folk not injured there & that is where she has been all the time... She did get word out as I said early on but in the chaos it was lost for a while, but got through in the end... They will have more help arriving with them soon too we hope.
So this news is fantastic to hear... Even in devastating utter chaos we have had good news... I hope & wish it will be for others too yet, amidst all the death & destruction...

So Thanks again everyone, we were lucky....

Absolutely friekin' fantastic!!!!! Soooooo glad for you and her family Marley - your shout of joy gave me shivers all over!

She is probably so glad that she is actually down there right now - if she's the kind of person who would go down to help out in a needy country, she'll be happy that she's there right now to do all that she can do in such a time of need. My heart goes out to all those who are not so fortunate - but so glad that you have not lost a special friend :) Big hugs xoxo

Yes it has been very difficult waiting for news & I am one of the lucky ones.. We have been to church & we have had a little celebration... It was still only a matter of hours for us.. For so many the waiting & pain goes on..
I have seen some wonderful rescues & some of the most disturbing & tragic scenes while I have been waiting for news... Those poor people...
It is hard to understand sitting here why it is taking so long to get equipment & aid in there to them.. I can understand their fear & frustrations when they see some rescue teams in there & journalists helping yet where is the real aid..?? Still sitting in the airport..?? Anyway....
I was proud to see the English team of specialist Fire Fighters in there straight away right from the beginning rescuing people.. The resiliency of the children rescued too is unbelievable..
As strongy said as well a lot of aid is being taken in through the Dominican now.. I really hope we will see some real aid & help in there to the people soon though..

Yes my friend is only doing what she would be doing wherever it was... There in the thick of it helping the people who are suffering.. That is her vocation in life I think.. I know I will hear more in time, but at least our worry is over..
Now my thoughts turn to all those poor people still on the streets & trapped in rubble.. Wondering if the world has forgotten them..
In the city of Port au Prince law & order is non existent as they have no leaders to co ordinate them, no back up & so few of them.... There are now the gangs.. 3000 prisoners escaped from the collapsed jail, allot of whom are with the gangs.... These are just roaming the streets & looting etc..
It is so sad to see all this unfolding & one feels so helpless sat here..

This is something I've never understood, but perhaps because I've never seen it first hand.

The US have sent soldiers there to help out, and have an aircraft carrier off shore serving as a second airport.

As a kid, I remember the disaster relief efforts for the Ethiopia famine. In fact in our technology class we were set the assignment of designing something that would help in such situations of mass homelessness, starvation, etc.

I don't know the specifics of this current situation, but generally food, first aid kits, temporary shelter (in the form of self erecting tents) can all be parachuted in. I think they did this in Ethiopia.

Also, if the miltary can get roads into battle fields, surely they can clear routes in areas where people are not doing their best to stop them. As far back as world war 2 and possibly earlier, I'm told that track laying gear was used to make temporary roads across soft sand and mud so that other vehicles could get through.

The only obstacle I can think of is a political one. Some governments might get upset about a foreign army setting up too much gear on their land, but surely this is not the time for politics and bureaucracy and pride. I was taught at school that the most successful communities are the ones that help others when they can, and accept help when they need it.

:thumb: Thanks Kandy it really is wonderful news to know she is safe & well & helping as that is exactly where she would want to be anyway... It is her vocation in life I think.. :thumb:
It was wonderful to have all the good wishes & prayers from my friends on here Kandy.. Helped me through those few hrs, but boy were they hard.. Still Marilyn is fine so now my thoughts & prayers are with the rest of the people of Haiti...
The devastation is unbelievable for many many miles outside Port au Prince.. The Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault runs right through Haiti & on to Jamaica..!! Where the Walton fault comes in from the other side... Our cottage in Jamaica is about 1hr away from that..!!
Anyway this map shows you the extent of Haiti's devastation.............!!

This is good article if you are interested.. I am obviously..
    http://www.boston.com/news/world/worldly_boston/2010/01/haiti_quake_took_place_along_k.html

That is why there is utter devistation to the end of the peninsula...!!!!! Not just Port au Prince area as we see on TV mainly...
The epicentre was actually around Leogane which is actually only a few miles from where my friend is...!!!!!!

 As regards the aid I am with clueless now.. Darned Politics....!!!!! After talking to my friends brother, there is a huge feeling that the US have been dragging their feet part on purpose... I think president Chavez says it in a nutshell... Allot of other people are starting to feel the same too... Why no hords of US helicopters flying.. Why all the hold ups.. Why is the aid choking the airport..???? Why are the US soldiers not helping...???? Well President Chavez has it in a nutshell we feel.....
I don't know what will happen yet as do any of us, but I am sure there will be allot of questions afterwards.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
