I recently bought seeds from Aldis - only 39p per packet and I thought
they were enough for our small garden. Put seeds in trays - French Marigolds, Cornflowers and Gardeners Delight Tomatoes - 3+ weeks ago. I know it has been cold but germination has been exceedingly poor - less than 25% so I don't think they are very good and won't buy them again. Anybody else bought seeds from Aldi?

I have now ordered some on line from Premier Seeds Direct and hoping for better results.

I have had exceptionally poor germination this year but none of the seeds have been from Aldi.

I was giving up in disgust on a number of things, calling the seed merchant all sorts, and resowed a few. I put them in the heated propagator and then they germinated.

They were in covered propagators in a greenhouse but not heated.
Perhaps not warm enough then John?

Yes maybe too cold in the greenhouse without heat jjordie. You'll probably find most will germinate given enough time (weeks!)

Have you enough space indoors on a windowsill to start them off?

I bought seeds from Aldi & although there wasn't much choice couldn't resist 39p a packet. I estimate 80-90% germination so far. Peas were slow but they've all germinated now.

    Thanks all for replies.
I have taken advice given and put them on a warm windowsill and in just a couple
of days many more little shoots have appeared. They must have just been waiting
for a bit of warm sun!

I think I am a bit impatient and expecting results too quickly.
Apologies to Aldi as the seeds seem to have proved me wrong.

Tomato seeds need bottom heat to germinate. Sometimes help if you give your seeds a cold period in the fridge before you attempt to germinate. This mimics natures cold period of winter.
