Hi, what would you advise as to the best and cheapest multi purpose compost?
I need to prick out some seedlings.....late l know, but l have not been very well of late......and for the last couple of years, l have used B & Q's own brand compost, but they appear to have stopped doing it, and the one that they seem to have replaced it with, has mixed reviews. My husband was made redundant in March, hence the best/cheapest LOL.:frown::frown::frown:

    Kind regards,

    Josie

I bought some B&Q stuff (Verve I think it's called?) in my opinion, there's no difference to B&Q's brand of years gone by.

B&Q have rebranded as Kyle said, it's called Verve :)

If you do a quick search there has been a thread about compost recently.

Asda Smart Price is my choise. The best bit is that you can order it with your groceries, and since I usually order from Tesco, both the retailers get all giddy when they think I have swapped loyalties.

Asda sends me "welcome back" offers and vouchers and Tesco drops to its knees to beg me back with great discounts.

But yes, the compost is ok and costs around 90p for 15l. Delivered to your door.

With Wickes MPC there#s plenty of info regarding the reduced quality this year, but the price has come down now to £3 for 70L.

Even having to remove the stick bits etc and adding vermiculite or grit for drainage, it's a better deal than befire - IMHO

I've always used B & Q multi-purpose and this last week used my first bag of of the new Verve. As Kyle says there's little difference in the two. There are are a few bits and pieces in it I can do without but they're not an issue really.

There is one issue though, the price has gone up 50P.

In my B&Q (Trafford Park) they are still selling off the old 70L bags of compost for £3 each - worth asking at your local one whether they've got any old stock.
