When our oldest daughter was a mere toddler (must be about 20 years ago now), she used to refer to our compost heap as 'the ooshtoomp'. Of course, the name stuck and to this day my two finely constructed wooden compost bins at the bottom of the garden are always referred to as 'The Ooshtoomp'.

Best of it is, after telling a colleague at work about this, he liked the word so much he told our apprentice that 'ooshtoomp' was, in fact, the Latin name for compost. :snork:
Three years later, the boy still believes this is true!
He left a couple of weeks ago, we never did tell him, wonder if he'll ever find out. :lolpt:

Well I have "The side bit" and "The back garden" with "The Greenhouse"

At Aunts house, we have "The Upper Lawn", "The Rose Terrace", ""The upper Terrace"
"Middle Terrace" and "Lower Terrace", then "The Veg Garden", "The lower lawn" and "The Ponds" along with "The Summer house" and "The Sheds"
Thankfully she has now got a Gardener in, I wish they were mine but alas they never will be and the family will be sad to see them go
They have been the family home since 1878, and shortly will be no longer :cry3:

No "you will have it" I just wish to be the gardener and allowed to visit daily

              Thanks

No being honest I would love to keep it on, but I know it can not happen

If the RNLI do not get it, then the split amongst nephews and nieces, could not be bought out
Julie who's Aunty it is (I am the incomer of 43yrs) would not wish to live there, as it is too large, too many rooms to keep she says
My two daughters and their families love it to, the kids spend hours exploring hidden rooms in rooms :cry3:

At East Ruston Old Vicarage (my Fave garden) they have some grand names like "The Kings Walk", "The Jubilee Walled Garden" (which is probably about an acre!) but they also have a "room" with rows of Acacias which is called "Acacia Avenue" which made me chuckle :)

There's a bit about 8' wide down one side of our house which, when you discount the path, leaves a width of approx 5' - it never gets any sun, is overhung by my neighbour's beech hedge through which grows thick ivy both of which conspire to suck all the moisture out of my sandy soil, nothing will grow and after trying several things over the years we've kind of given up on it - not for nothing is it known as 'the forgotten garden'!

I've named all the bits in my garden.

I've got the Woodland Corner (a 6' x 4' corner that faces NE and never sees the sun)
I've got the Bee & Butterfly Border (that's about 4' x 3' at it's widest) with the Lower Lawn running alongside it (4' x 3'ish)...
...next to that is The Wildlife Pond (4' x 3')
The Upper Lawn (4' x 4' and where the washing line goes)
The Moroccan Courtyard (the 6' x 6' bit outside the kitchen door)
The Container Garden (The 8' x 6' of patio slabs where I put the fruit in pots that I can't get in the veg garden)
The Veg Garden (A 6' x 3' raised bed, with a 6' x 1' strip behind it under the fence)
and finally Compost Corner (the compost bin next to the back gate)

Makes my tiny garden sound a bit grander. And it helps me pick plants and things to go in the different bits to create the look I'm after.

                  Jo :)
