    Hi
I have never really grown much before; though when I was still living with my parents I do remember a (disastrous) attempt to grow pumpkins!

This time with access to my 'own' garden I have planted some sunflower seeds as I think they are supposed to be quite easy to grow. Also I thought it'd be fun to see how tall I could get them. They have just come though as seedlings that are a couple of inches tall. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to grow them? Should I support them when they are bigger? Feed them and if so what? That kinda thing. Thanks :-).

Definitely support them when they grow or they will topple over. Feed regularly and make sure the slugs don't get the seedlings!

    Hi Jase,

to stop the slugs getting at them cut the bottom out of a 2l pop bottle and put over the seedlings, i have done this and now mine are flying. they will need support i have stuck a 8 foot cane in the ground for mine.

    Hi Andy and Rusty
Thanks for the advice :). I have some organic liquid seaweed so I can use that for feeding them. Also there are some bamboo canes someone left in the shed so I can use those for support when (if?) they get bigger.

Great idea on the pop bottles Rusty - in fact 'ar giv' it five', if you catch what I mean! I have put a couple of bottles over them and maybe it's my imagination but already they seem to be on a growth spurt! Seems like as well as keeping the slugs at bay they act as a kind of mini greenhouse?
