My local nursery hasn't got a clue... What is this?

    Dear All,
I have found this plant growing in my blueberry tub. Somehow I did not realise that it is not another blueberry shoot until it has grown above it.
It is 1 year old seedling that I first noted last summer and now in the second summer it is this large.

Any clues as to what this is, as my local garden centre pros have suggested a dogwood or a beech... Somehow pictures of those plants do not look quite the same...

    Shouldn't dogwood be a bush?
This one looks like a tree.
Also, everything I find on dogwood seems to have leaves in pairs and this one has alternating leaves.

Dmitriy, I am not sure exactly what your young tree is.

Cornus almost always have leaves on a twig that are opposite to each other.
( Cornus alternifolia being an exception!)

Salix on the other hand has leaves that are alternate on the twig.

Prunus padus, common name Bird cherry has alternate leaves.
But the leaves of this have different edges, leaf margins from your pic. see..

So this very neatly rules out Dogwood. Including black dogwood ... Cornus sanguinea.
Cornus can be shrubs or grow in to sizeable trees depending on which sp they are.

      Hope this helps a little.

      This link may help you.
