I think i seen an episode of springwatch or autumn watch not sure lol and there was a seagull perched ontop of a birds nest and it was eating all the little birds one by one as they came out the nest or they mite have been bats :dunno:

There is a spot round the side of the conservatory that gets shade most of the day i think that mite be perfect for it Armand, there is a big ladder folded upround there atm too so that could be a sign :snork: :dancy: Best get the advert typed out....

Hydro, think about what roofing you have above the boxes too. You spoke about a conservatory, is it flat roofed giving access to cats? If so you'll have to position the box/boxes slightly lower so they can't get to them.

Sad update on my bird box , the Blue Tits egss had hatched and we could hear chirping in the nest. We had awful weather last weekend high winds and three days of rain , unfortunately the feeding activity ceased and the chicks have perished. I have removed the bird box and will try a new one next year -sad but life goes on.

Yes - it strikes us as "sad" but I don't think that the birds get so upset about it. I think the parents may well try again but in another place .Their overwhelming desire to perpetuate the species overwrites everything I believe.
Watched a magpie eat a young fledgling out on the lawn 2 mornings ago.
It is hard to separate yourself from our way of viewing things like that isn't it....

Yes Jenny , I am always telling Mrs H that nature is not exactly "fluffy bunny land ", but actually a rather terrifying place where your total existence is survival and not becoming someones dinner.
