While im online thought I might as well get another id.
Im pretty sure it's Azaela but not 100% as it has very shiny leaves.
It's not flowered yet and ive had it 12 months.
If it doesn't flower soon then it's going!

Hi it looks like Escallonia , it like full sun and should have red flowers

Lets see what the others have to say , plus give it a chance , occasionaly with plants grown in pots then moved to a bigger container they are putting all the energy into new roots and new growth before it will flower so a liitle more time wont harm

I agree it could be Escallonia (close up of the leaves would help). You say you've had it 12 months but it looks like it's still a young plant, which may be why it hasn't flowered.

Part of the joy of gardening is having the patience to nurture plants until they are ready to show you their beauty. They tend to stick to their own timetables rather than ours :)

Are the leaves sticky to the touch?

Here is a good pic showing Escallonia leaves. It shows tiny leaves in amongst the larger ones, which I believe I can see in your pic.

There are different sp. The flowers can be red, but there are also ones with white flowers and ones with pink flowers.

I cannot detect any buds on your shrub so I suspect you will have to wait till June 2013 to see the flowers.

Violet, crush a couple of leaves, if it has a citrus smell then it's Escallonia.

I have sixty feet of Escallonia hedging.

      This is my Escallonia.
DSCF1081.jpg When you grip the leaves between your finger they are sticky to the touch.
They are also easy to propogate. I just cut off a straightish shoot (12"+ long), strip off the leaves for half the length, remove any flowers/buds, and just stick in the ground.
Next year you will have a new shrub. I have 3 shrubs in my garden. All are over 6' height and spread and have come from cuttings.

Really gcc? I've tried various times to take cuttings from mine, and only had one success. Do you take yours from older wood? Mine were all from new growth which just wilted after a week or so.

I've taken cuttings from Escallonia too. They were taken from new growth 6" long and like Gcc I stripped off the lower leaves. I started mine with rooting powder in 3" pots and grew them outside. :)
