hello Ann , welcome to GC :dbgrtmb: I have just asked admin to move your post to a more useful section of Gardeners Corner , probably the Edible section or the Greenhouse section. It sounds like slug or snail damage to me , I am sure you will find some advice on here .

Hi Ann, did you harden them off before planting outside?

    It might also be pigeons.

If the plug plants had been grown in a greenhouse they will need to be acclimatised prior to going outdoors, this is called 'hardening off'. For 7 to 10 days you need to leave them outside during the day and move them back inside at night. Alternatively you can use a cold frame to acclimatise them.

If you put plants straight outside they will sit around and sulk for a couple of weeks or more and they are more of a target for pests and disease.

If it's pigoens you need to net against them. If it's slugs and snails and you are not green you can use pellets otherwise use beer traps, egg shells etc - but be prepared to lose one or two plants.
