saw this on the tv news. this big garden place is telling its MALE gardeners to wee on a bale of straw cos it breaks it down nicely for the compost heap :hehe: apparently, female urine is too acidic

so.......I've taken the advice cos I put our chicken waste in the compost bins (with straw). They're a bit tall for hubby and son to wee into (unless they get inventive) so I've saved an empty 4l spring water bottle and put it in our outside loo (yes, people still have outside loo's. we also have one inside in the bathroom) and asked the boys to fill it up! :lollol:

It's amazing how much they wee! Mind you, with that going into the compost, I'm guessing the rats won't be burrowing into the bottom of them :thumb:

Wee is supposed to be one of the best and cheapest compost activators.

Gardeners World Radio 4 many many years ago an old gent asked the panel for a cheap activator because he had only his pension to live on. I think it was Fred Loads who said when you take the chamber pot down each morning put the contents on your compost, it works and nothing is cheaper.

Also Bob Flowerdew also uses his recycled beer for the same.

I activate the compost in the mornings when I go out to let the chickens out - as long as it's not too cold!:( The compost heap also contains bedding and droppings from the rabbits*, plus household scraps so it's a good old mix. The chickens get in and scratch around so hopefully it will make a good mix.

*The rabbits belong to my daughter who bought them against my wishes. Despite the fact she was supposed to take them back to Uni with her, she discovered she's not allowed to so we've been landed with them. They're house rabbits and live in the same room as this computer.

The other evening I lost internet connection while trying to order a new appliance. I left it until the next day to sort out and spent all morning trying to reconnect. This included a long conversation with a nice man in Ireland, to no avail.

Finally, I found that the router worked in another phone socket in the house which started me thinking. I traced the phone line along the wall and guess what? The rabbits had chewed though it. Grr. This has now happened a second time, when they were supposed to be supervised so now I have to route a new cable out of their reach or...Anyone got any puff pastry?:hehe:
