Had a surprise call today from my local council, to inform me that an allotment plot had become available and as we were next on the waiting list, were we still interested.........?

The answer was a resounding "YES"................

Going to see the plot tomorrow:)

We reckon its roughly about 7m X 7m, Once we've done all the paperwork, we should be able to get onto it next week.

First job, grab brushcutter and strim it all back, then petrol rotivator and rotivate all the soil, to then have a clean site.

Off to do some plans now.:)

Nice one gg, congrats on the new plot!

If I could give you one piece of advice that you'll thank me for again and again...it's dont rotovate until you have removed the weeds. Brush cut by all means but then it's fork and spade time to dig out roots, if you rotovate the weeds you'll make a million more.

Get hold of some old carpet/weed membrane or black plastic to cover the brush-cut land while you dig out/weed a bit at a time, it does take you longer but is beter than a weed infested plot.

                    Good luck!

                    Steve...:)

Good luck with your allotment :dbgrtmb:

I can only strongly endorse what Steve has said. Rotovating just chops up the weeds and most of them will form new ones from each chopped bit. So you would have increased the amount of weeds many times. Just work methodically through the plot and carefully dig out all the weeds.

Looking at your picture especially the plants on the corner by the road I would pull up with out cutting and they should come up roots with this rain we have had.
Congrats on your new plot I bet you are looking forward to next years crops already

Thanks for the tips everyone, So its good old fashioned digging and back breaking work, but it will be worth it in the end if it clears the weeds. We are so gonna look like Tom & Barbera Good by the time we've cleared the site.:heehee:
