should I move my prunus spire?

I planted a bare root flowering cherry 'Spire' earlier this year. It seems to have settled well has grown about a foot taller now standing at 8' tall.
However, I am having second thoughts as to where I have positioned it and if I need to move it I will have to do it this autumn. It is just 3 feet from mine and my neighbours raised patios and I am concerned about any potential damage the roots will cause. My neighbour is someone who would blame any movement to his property on something like this regardless of whether or not it was found to be the problem.
The website where I bought the tree says the height after 20 years is expected to be about 20ft by a width of 5ft.
Am I right to be concerned and, if so, roughly when could I consider moving it?

If you can post a picture of where it is situated it would help Flossie. But by what you are saying it does sound rather close, if your patio is next to your house. As a rough guide the root spread of any tree can be as much as if not more than the tree grows in height.

If you intend to move it, leave it until later in the year when the leaves have dropped and it is dormant for the winter. :)

Thanks for replying. I have laid a metre rule on the ground to show how close I stupidly planted the tree. My neighbours patio is just on the other side of the fence level with mine. The diagonal distance is slightly over a metre to the corner.
Since planting the tree my neighbour has built decking up to the fence effectively turning the 6ft fence into a 3ft on their side. I am now planning on growing tall shrubs to fill the area for privacy which is another reason for debating moving my tree. The possibility of root disturbance is my main concern though.
Would you be able to answer another query please. When we moved here there was a full grown flowering cherry tree, don't know the variety but it was a more tradional shape compared to the spire . It started to die back quite quickly, and had large flat fungus growth at the base of the trunk. We cut it down and when digging up some of the roots they were covered in a white spore type infection. This was about 25 years ago and the only thing planted in that area since has been a rose bush and honeysuckle. Taking into account that some of the roots were left as I wasn't able to dig them up, is there still likely to be a problem do you reckon? That tree was about 6 metres from where I have planted my new one. I am hoping that my Spire will be OK but knew I was maybe taking a chance with it.
I messed up with my choice and where I positioned it really didn't I but I would like to get it sorted this autumn to give the tree the best chance.

Is the reason you're asking about the fungus/disease because you are thinking about putting this tree in the same position? I would have thought if the tree was removed 25 years ago that any disease left in the ground would have died off. The tree itself may have been old and dying, which would suggest the reason for the disease.

You could always try a 'test' dig in the area to see if there is anything still there, but I think it's unlikely.

Regarding the young Prunus, if it was mine I'd move it from it's present position, at least fifteen feet from where it is now. But of course wait until it's dormant. :)

Yes, I would like to plant another Prunus of some kind in the same area as the old tree. I'm thinking of a fruiting variety, cherry, plum or damson maybe.
Thanks for your opinion about the position of my Spire. I'll move it at the end of the year.
