    Hi Freddy

Red lily beetle dont like Hemerocallis latin name they are not related to Lilies.

Hemerocallis (Daylily) like free draining soil full sun and lots of compost mixed in to the soil before planting , suffer from very few pests , slugs mostly in the spring like most plants, ph 6.5-7 neautral to slightly acid so with you the more organic the better ie horse muck well rotted would be ideal before planting , Simbad and I plant about 18 inces apart to give them room to grow , so 5 plants would bulk up after two years .

    Hope this helps

Hiya Spruce, thanks for that:blue thumb: Are they fully hardy? If so, when would be the best time to plant them? I'm guessing they are planted during dormancy?

Hi Freddy , you can plant most time of the year apart from December till end of February thats what I do but sure Simbad will add to this , I get mine now and they arrive barerooted looks like a leek (fan shaped) I normaly grow in a pot for 6 weeks then plant out or if I get in the Autumn I pot up keep in the cold greenhose and plant out in the spring its that easy. 1st year in the Autumn I cover all the ground with a thick 2 inces of bark just to give them some xtra protection over the winter but after that they should be fine I have over 100 diffrent ones now :yikes: mostly spiders and UF (Unusual forms) .

I have added photos on the other daylily thread TW flowerd today this is classed as a spider daylily

I think Freddy is getting hooked :love30:

Hello all, thanks you two, you are really kind to recommend me:doggieshmooze: Hello Freddy, cultural instructions go out with the plants. They are very hardy and DO NOT get lily beetle. They don't care what acidity the soil is. If you have any questions don't hesitate, love your description, me too, especially at the mo, it would be great if it would stop raining.:eeew:

        Hi Freddy

I have been waiting weeks to dig out my new border on the left hand side of the garden ( more lawn going) I have all the plants in pots on the decking ready to go in (if you look at lurch photo you will see lots of them in pots in the back ground), my lawn is so wet and saturated I dont want to ruin it until I have a dry week.

My new daylily's that I havnt seen flowering before, about a day before the bud opens I put in the greenhose so this manky weather doesnt ruin the flower plus I get a good photo to put on here plus I will be selling any spare ones on ebay next year , and I have been cross polinating hopefuly they will set seed.

'Magical Swirls' not showing its true colour on this picture, 8.30am and its so dark and dismal the flash went off:thud: , worried the rain would ruin this so took a picture before it did,if it dries up later I'll get another picture, much darker purpley/blue in real life, I love this one.
        005.JPG
'Big Bird' a big bit of sunshine on another gloomy day , my OH's favourite, such huge flowers you can spot it straight away.
