I pulled up my overwintering onions yesterday because the tops went over in the gales and were starting to rot plus the outer skins were going soft & brown rather than dry & golden so I thought I'd lose the lot to rot if I left them in to get more rain on. Unfortunatey they all came up with lumps of wet clayey mud attached to the roots bigger than the onions themselves and I've spent an hour trying to squeeze it off. They're looking looking really messy now.

This is my second and worste year of growing stuffz, I've not got disheartened by the rain for two reasons.

            1) I remember what I got last year in much better conditions, I think this year is a freak, next year I'll go at it again but much harder.

            2) my son has Cystic Fybrosis, earler in the year he picked up an infection, I was given a two month advance warning that he would be in hozzy for IV's for all of July, (he's healthy, they just need to kill the bacteria) so I looked at what I had in the pipeline, stopped seeding anything that would need watering often, gave away toms and other stuffz, then sat and thought about what I'd like to bring to my garden in 2012, I decided it was time the lawn needed some love, its never been fed or weeded in over ten years, I spent £5 on a large box of feed/weed/moss killer, and £5 on grass seed.

I must say its been worth the effort, the onions look pants, but the lawn is starting to look the best ever, deffo a good year for grass lolz.

            PP.

            Hi Plant Potty,

Kind regards to your Boy as always. No fun when your young.

Good luck with the lawn, at least i'm not going to burn mine this year with this lack of Sun.

Just dark here, there is a bit of heat coming thru the clouds though & the Corgettes are responding to it. Still only got 2 ripe Tomatoes though.

Going back off topic, spent a few nights in The Lazy Cow in Salisbury on our way back from Shineyland. Right near the Cathedral, it was great.

Well, where do I start ?

My Swedes are splitting, my Runners are doing ok. The Brussell plants look reasonable, and I've had some great Brocolli. But, my onion bed is drowned out and half of them are rotting. My CAbbages and Caulis are decidedly unhappy. My spuds are slow, my outdoor cougettes and Marrows look like theve been shot, the indoor ones are rotting off at the ends. The beetroot looks ok, the celeriac and carrots look ok. God know s what my leeks are thinking. Parsnips look good. Tomatos, aubergine and chillis in the greenhouse look ok. Half of my turnips have rotted and my beds look like swimming pools.

Other than that.......its sunny this morning !
