most of my mates had big road bikes .... I never felt comfortable on them and these are the 3 motorbikes I owned:

my 1st bike .... Suzuki TS 185 (I rode it illegally as I was only 15)

            my 2nd bike was a honda XL500s

my last and best bike was a Yamaha XT500 (I am thinking of getting another XT500 if I can find a decent vintage one) .... ideal for Cambridge as it's light and nippy

I used to go on long trips and even went to the sand dunes/desert in Namibia (was called South West Africa at the time) ....

a great motorbike and was very popular in South Africa ... I had a long range petrol tank fitted ... it's a bike that can go anywhere (motorways or bush/rough terrain)

my sort of bike ... very nice!

              I have always fancied trail bikes/scramblers ....

if I ride a bike and I don't feel in total control, I don't feel comfortable, especially through heavy traffic

I rode many of my mates road bikes on long distances .... best road bike that I ever used was a Honda CBX (6 cylinder) .... lovely for a motorway/long ride ...

another was a Suzuki GS850 (shaft drive) .... but not suited for town riding ... it's way too heavy

I rode a Honda Gold wing once for approx 400 miles .... I just never felt comfortable on that .... have never ridden a harley though

when I finished army (we had 2 years mandatory conscription), I was going to buy a Honda CB900 F boldor road bike, and my dad refused to sign surety with the bank for the loan ... so my dad bought me a VW golf as a present

(thinking back, I would have most prob killed myself on the 900 honda)

I am seriously thinking of getting another trail/enduro bike such as the Yamaha XT500 ... light, nippy, go anywhere, .... bob and weave through heavy traffic

wife knows I want another bike (traffic is a nightmare here in Cambridge, and costs more than £6 just to park a car in the city) ...
