I Don't Believe It.

A couple of weeks ago my new neighbour was planting Petunias in two ceramic pots.The young lady asked me,"how many plants should I put in each pot"?.
I told her in the pot size she was using i would plant 4 max,as any more than that, they would choke each other ,restricting growth.
It is her first garden, so she knew nothing about gardening.
A couple of days ago i asked her if she had been feeding her plants,her reply was"what with".I made up a mixture in my watering can saying to her"feed the plants from the outer edge of the pots without the spray spout ,do not pour over the leaves only feed the roots of the plants and this will make them grow like bouquets draping over the rims of the pots".
As I was working in the garden I glanced over ,to see how she was getting on.
To my amazement,she was standing pouring the mixture down the outside of the pots,giving the pots a good wash, not feeding the plants.

I asked her what the hell was she doing,her reply was>"well you told me to feed them from the outside"..In the words of Victor Meldrew"I don't believe it".

Well, we all have to start from somewhere

 

She sounds to me like a good lass. It sounds like rather than stubbornness compelling her to pretend she knows what she's doing, she is humble enough to bow to your superior knowledge and take advice from you. Ok, so she misinterpreted some of your advice, and it sounds quite funny what she did. She'll be laughing at herself about once she knows a bit better Still, it sounds like she tried to get it right.

 

Well I may have learnt something as well here ! When feeding petunias is it best to just pour the feed onto the soil and not over the full plant , so you are not foliar feeding When doing the normal watering I presume it is OK to use the rose spray spout ?

 

Absolutely. When gardening with 6-year olds I realised that a few plants had been planted with the pot still on - Because I hadn't made it clear that you had to take the pot off. It's so obvious to me..........

 

When I was taking my driving lessons the instructor told me to take the 2nd exit from the roundabout ahead.

He said he used to tell students to go straight over the roundabout untill one actually did.

 

He said he also had to add "Giving way to traffic from the right"

 

I used to teach in a nursery many years ago. As the little ones were coming back into the class area from outside through a patio door I asked them to 'wipe your feet on the mat on the way in.' Of course one poor little chap took his shoes and socks off to wipe his feet ! One or two others thought they had better follow suit until I noticed and explained myself better.
These poor kids didn't have a very good teacher it must be said. Only a couple of weeks later I had them painting their feet as part of a printing class. Did I check to see if the paint would wash off ? Nah ! They all went home with different coloured feet. Some parents thought to forgive me, some called for the chop ! Luckily I survived.

HarryS. I Apply to the base of the plants only,when watering or feeding Petunias (without the spray rose). as regards to the foliar,I leave that to the Rain,which we have had LOTS AND LOTS this year.cheers, Music..
