50% red and 50% yellow is what I normally plant, but I normally plant them in groups of the same colour (1 meter of red, then 1 meter of yellow, then 1 meter red etc)

always looks 'bold and bright' when using that colour scheme

Last year I grew 'Angelique', very pretty pink double, with some white doubles. They looked like a little patch of paeonies.

I planted some black tulips in a garden in late autumn last year ... not sure how they fared, as it was a one off job and I have never been back there

    they were expensive though

With Tulips a single colour planting or a classic double colour red and yellow(or white ) as Dim suggested look fantastic . We like a complete colour chaotic mix - just make sure they are the same height and early or late flowering. I think whatever you do with tulips looks good , they are a really good winters over spring is here flower. :blue thumb:

I agree with the choices above. Harry has made a good point about ensuring the tulips you choose are the same height, and flower at the same time - there's more to it than meets the eye! In my garden I go for a mix of orange/red/yellow of both single and double coloured tulips. They look really spectacular from March until May.
