    Hi all, my hakonechloa macra alboaureata (or similar...) hasn't grown very much yet, I planted it last summer. Is it a slow grower? I have seen good size clumps, but mine hasn't grown much yet.

    It grows in a spot with good moisture (esp this year:mad: ), but normally it would just be moisture rententive, not wet. Soil is quite good clay-based soil, but not to heavy. Sunshine in the morning till 11, but only when the sun is high like in june, from august till march it won't get direct sunshine, but a light shade only (the house).

    Where/how do you grow your hakonechloa macra?

    I plant loads ... but I only plant Hakonechloa macra Aureola

    I even plant them in full sun .... they do best in semi-shade though, and if planted in sun, you need to keep them moist

    they grow slowly so it's always best to buy larger plants if you can ... they take 2-3 years to mature

      Hi , I have the Aureola too but they do like the same conditions as yours. You seem to have it in the right position. They can take a few years to mature so I wouldn't worry too much. I make sure mine has a nice humus rich soil which I think makes the difference. The one in the pic is about 2 years old. In a year mine grow almost double their size given the room to stretch out a bit. A quick 'google images' shows how good they can look in the right context.

        thanks dim and Gazania, it think the only thing that the plant lacks slightly is room;
        and I will give it a good helping of compost
