This is my first visit to a forum. Im a beginner gardner and have no clue about pretty much anything so I hope everyones experience can help me. I have 2 questions regarding my apple tree. First I should mention I live in Norway as this is probably of some relevance. 1- I want to move the tree. Its been growing on rock and over the winter storms a large conifer was blown over, lifting all the earth around it. This apple tree was therefore pulled half out and now its roots are exposed and the tree is at a 45 degree angle. When should I do this and are there any tips on how I can do this safely and easily? 2- This tree is not looking very strong. Its very tall and spindly. Most of the apples are on the top branch which is really thin. I thought that maybe I should just cut the tree back to almost the trunk after transplanting it to let it start again and grow stronger and sturdier. Is this a bad idea? Is there a better way??
Hello Eleni and to Gardeners corner...you'll enjoy it here As for your tree i'm afraid i can't help you there but hang on and you'll soon recieve all the help you need
Welcome to Gardeners Corner Apples do respond well to a hard pruning, but you probably won't get any fruit for 2 seasons. If its growing spindly then its probably not getting enough light. Was the conifer shading it?
Welcome to GC Eleni. We also need to consider the height of an apple tree before moving it elsewhere. How tall is it?
