I know they are not really the gardeners friend .. but where have all the insects gone ... the goodies who eat the baddies , we need baddies for the goodies. To be honest have you seen many?

Has the terrible weeks of rain drown them all, are they still in hibernation because of no sunshine warmth?

Does this mean when the rain stops there will be swarms? Or if drowned there wont be any offspring for next year?

I'm hoping that they're late in coming, Caveman. My garden is designed to attract every insect there is, good and bad, but they have been in low numbers despite that. April was good for Bees and Hoverflies but now the Hoverflies have disappeared while the number of Bees has reduced.

According to an expert on the radio yesterday morning its down to the poor weather we have been having. Its reduced butterflies and other insects.

This in turn is giving the birds a hard time as many of them eat the bugs etc.

My friend who has 2 beehives says the bees are not coming out because of the rain! I don't blame them. Still seeing Bumbles about, and leafcutters. The birds are still coming to the feeders in vast numbers, so I think there must be a lack of insects:( I have seen about a dozen butterflies all summer.
Unfortunately slugs and snails are enjoying themselves.

There are plenty of slugs & snails in my garden - too many in fact. I haven't seen many bees or butterflies etc. despite my pollinator friendly planting. My great tits raised two broods in the nest box, so must have found something to sustain their heroic to-ing & fro-ing. I hope we get some sun soon to bring the insects back.

I've not seen a butterfly at all this year, really disappointing. Something nice about pottering about in the garden and having the odd butterfly flutter-by.
