My sister is in the throes of moving from Nantwich in Cheshire to Wem in Shropshire and what she can't take with her [she's moving from a house into a small flat] she's either giving away or leaving behind. One of the things she was leaving behind is the fellow below. She's had it some years and is fond of it so I said I'd take it for my garden and keep it in the family......all I've got to do now is find a place to put it.:heehee:

Not if I get there first Gretzky! :heehee:

Armandii, I've wanted an owl for my garden for some years, but not found one tall enough or pretty enough. He's a lovely looking fella! :)

Are you going to call him Woo?

Not a bad idea, Sheal:thumbsup: .......have to get permission from the real one though first:heehee: Does that mean he goes amongst the roses then??!!:snork:

Another thing I rescued is a large tug of Oxalis which I've always admired, but not coveted, so since my sister was leaving that behind......

Sorry about the side one effect......I did rotate it in Photobucket but.....:dunno: I'll see if rotating it on the computer works.

Uncrick your necks, it appears rotating on Photobucket only works if you do it on your computer first.....

I'm sure Wise Old Owl would be delighted, especially if he perches amongst the roses........if you've got room.

I think he would look good in a more elevated position, so I might look around for a higher plinth. I think he'll fit into the garden nicely with a bit of thought.:snork:

Historically owls were bringers of bad luck an doom Athena used to appear as an owl an that always ended badly for the mortal who saw it. Nice sculpture tho :p

That's funny! When I studied mythology the Greek people viewed the owl as a symbol of wisdom and that was why the coins in the period of Athena had the symbol of an owl on them. It was one of the protectors of The Acropolis.

Some parts of the world related the owl to femininity and wisdom (you girls would agree with that one ) and others to mystery, magic and knowledge. On the downside, the red Indians saw it as an evil thing and the central American Indians (Mayans etc) saw it as a harbinger of death.

Nowadays it's recognised as a symbol of wisdom and calmness.

I agree with you, ARMANDII, it should be higher up so that it can survey its surroundings in a benevolent fashion.

                          Armandii,

                          I like the Oxalis.
I bought a bag of tubers on the weekend.
