    Hi all

I have 2m tall privet hedge which has a gap in it where another type of woody shrub has grown and died. This gap is about 2m wide I would say. I am wanting to fill the gap such that the privet looks like one long hedge.

I am completely new to this and unsure where to start, can you buy privets that size already to plug the gap?

Also in some areas of privet elsewhere on my drive whats looks like a japonicus has grown amongst it and looks quite nice. Is it easy enough to perhaps plant other flowering hedging amongst privet?

    Thanks

Welcome to GC Thomas. I'm not sure whether you can buy full size privets but there is no reason why you can't put young plants in. Privet is fairly fast growing and will make up in no time, as they start to put on height give them a light trim to help them bush out.

You can put other shrubs in between, but often they make the hedge look scruffy as they grow at different rates and if they flower you will lose the flowers when you come to trimming the whole hedge. I have an Escallonia hedge and wouldn't plant anything else with it should I lose part of it, I prefer the uniformity of one type of plant. :)
