You can't turn on the TV without catching some home improvement, house hunting or bargain hunt type program.
Personally I think daytime TV is a government conspiracy to force folk back to work (or into the garden).
Anyhoo, where are all the gardening programs?
I'm not talking about the quick makeover ones where they don't really show you how to do things, I would like to see some for folk like me who know nowt.

Forget the soaps and so called talent shows, lets have something informative.

Anyone know of anything on some obscure channel, or DVD?

    Cheers
    David

I watched that Alan Titmarsh Garden's programme last night, about Sissinghurst in Kent. It's one of his better series, I'd recommend it apart from the really annoying background music they were playing, someone has a weird sense of what is appropraite for each of the garden rooms at Sissinghurst. It certainly spoiled our enjoyment of it and I had to watch some of the programme with the sound off :(

Yes, I watched some of Mr T's programme. I thought it was good too and some of his tips were quite worthwhile. However, I'd have to take him to task over his closing comments. He said, at the end of the programme, "Sissinghurst, perhaps, more than any other, teaches us to love our gardens".

Considering the strange relationship that Harold and Vita had with each other (and others!) and the fact that, in essence, Sissinghurst is really a museum, little changed since Vita laid it out, I don't think it's a place that inspires love. For that, the accolade would have to go to Great Dixter. I know Fergus, the head Gardener and he's passionate about keeping Christo's vision but is not afraid to make changes and try new things.

Because of that, I believe that Great Dixter is the one garden that inspires us to love ours.

That's interesting Chris, I don't know anything at all about Harold or Vita just that they were very posh and one was a writer, going by Alan's comments they were very eccentric, what was their strange relationship?

I'll put Great Dixter on my list of places to visit thanks.

They had, what is termed now, an open relationship, but much more complicated. Harold liked men and Vita, women. She had a well publised affair with Violet Trefusis, featured under disguise in Virginia Woolf's Orlando.

Yes John, do make a special effort to visit Great Dixter http://www.greatdixter.co.uk/

But not at the moment. I've just been over to see my mother in law who is unwell. She lives close to the entrance. When I left to come home it was snowing hard and in the 3/4 hour I was away so much snow had fallen that I couldn't get the car back up the drive so it'll have to stay at the bottom for the night.:(

Thanks for that Chris. Couldn't get our cars up the drive yesterday, but that's not too unusual around here, it only needs a few inches and freezing temperatures to create the pack ice. It's also snowing again with us, looks like I might be having another 'holiday' tommorow at home.
