I wonder if it's a wild flower, perhaps Zigs will drop in and have a look.

Hi, I was still hoping for a definate ID on this seed pod. There are similarities to a wallflower, but the again it looks different. Any ideas ?

Hi Gazania, I've come up with a couple of possibilities.

    1. Arabidopsis Thaliana (Mouse Ear Cress)

    2. Thale cress.

Sheal and Madahhlia you might well be on to something there. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a wall flower coz mum said it didn't flower. But something like what you two suggest could well go by unnoticed. I guess it's a plant it and see job.
And Stephen, I was in Llandudno today. I searched the local secondhand bookshop for gardening books but they only had a couple. Enjoyed a walk along the prom' anyway.
      Thanks

It would have had to flower to produce the seeds, probably did it in all that wet weather while we were tucked up indoors keeping dry.

As to what it is? Looks like a Brassica but I couldn't go into what sort just from the pods, theres loads of them that all look simliar.

Gazania, I pulled what is to me a weed out of a pot in the garden today. It looks similar to the plant you're trying to ID. Pics below, what do you reckon? :) IMG_0643.JPG

The flower is slightly smaller than a 5 pence piece.

I'm beginning to think it might be a weed Sheal. Mum has 2 of them in the garden which she reckons I planted ! First of all I thought she said in a pot. But it turns out they are in the ground ! The pic you posted does look promising.
So, if I am to sow the seed, do you reckon do it now,or save until spring ?

Thats one of the Willow Herbs Sheal, without looking it up, its probably got a name like lesser, or small Willowherb.

My thoughts Gazania, I think your plant might be Charlock - wild mustard as it is in allot of wild bird foods so could have been dropped by a bird & has grown , flowered & gone to seed now..

Sheal I think yours could be Broadleaf willowherb Sheal..

If you want to sow it then there's no reason why you shouldn't do it now, after all if it's a weed it'll grow like mad anyway. :heehee:

Hey could be right Marley. In the patch where the plant is growing dad used to always sow wild flower seeds. Okay, like Sheal suggests, if it is a weed it should grow like mad. I'll give it a good start in my greenhouse tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have something to feed back with soon.

OK looking at your seedlings I don't think it is Willowherb then as the seedling leaves are different.. I still stick with my earlier suggestion of Charlock but without growing one we won't be sure I suppose..

Hi, just looked at some pics of Charlock seedlings on the web and the first set of leaves look promising. The next couple of days the second true leaves will appear and then we'll have a much better idea. But yes, Charlock looks promising.

Hi, well all the seedlings seem to have one dominant true leaf as seen on the photo. It looks a good match for charlock, I think :) I will try and find a pic on the web that is big enough to compare that can be posted.
