Went down there yesterday, couldn't work out how to put the flash on my camera so i'll post a link as the pics were a bit dark.

A great tour, goes well into the history of the site, from Roman times to very recently. The caves were used for growing mushrooms & forcing Rhubarb.

I foolishly owned up when the guide asked if there were any geologists in the group.

Got called to the front and asked to explain the Alpine Mountain Building Erogeny. He contradicted me when I said it was 65 million years ago, saying it was 40mya.

Had to look that up when I got back, it started 65 mya, but is still going on, the Alps are still rising.

Anyway, it was that that had tilted the strata and brought the cretaceous limestone seam up. Saved face later when he asked me to Identify a feature, which I immediatley said was Slickensides, the pattern made on rock by sliding along a fault line:phew:

The guide said he'd seen a dark shape move past the back of one tour group, another guide refused to go down there on his own, wouldn't say what he'd seen that made him so scared though. And a woman in another group was followed by a man with a plank of wood, when she asked he husband why the bloke was following her, he vanished:hate-shocked:

Lots of people have been killed down there, the bodies of some are still down there, it was too unsafe to dig them out.

    Anyone fancy the Halloween tour?

      Ta,

Forgot to say, the Tracery Window in the pic was taken out of Exeter Catherdral and brought back to where it came from.

So thats where they get beer from, a quarry! No wonder they make up ghost stories to keep people out, I bet it's the caretaker pretending to be a ghost Scooby Doo like.
