My irises have finished flowering and the stems are just looking messy, what do I do now? Can I cut them from the base or do I leave them as there are?

Cut back the old flowering stems and tidy up the leaves of the plant itself by removing any dead or dying material. I often cut the leaves back by about half., but no more than that, They need those leaves to build up the rhizome for next years flowers.Good time to divide, split and replant too.
