I'm using a more appropriate measuring instrument for my whopper:

Well its with great sadness that I have to report that I'm out of the running, I measured mine last week at 35" around and then yesterday I looked at it and it didn't look right, so I had a closer inspection and it'd gone soft and squishy. Underneath I found that a slug had bored its way in and let loads of moisture in, even though I'd tried my best to lift it slightly....:frown:.......................ah well next year it is :), I'll just have to buy one for halloween this time..:rolleyespink:

No John, I had 2 originally, but the first one gave up when it was about grapefruit sized and I really thought I'd cracked it with this one, it was already slightly bigger than the one I ended up with last year. But I suppose the slight positive if there is one is that there was nothing wrong with the plant it was a slimey little critter that done the damage

I wonder if there is still time for another one to develop Bilbo, normally I'd have said no chance by mid-august but there still could be an Indian summer and maybe 8 weeks of reasonable growth?

I'm going out in a minute to build a wall of slug pellets around my minnow. I lost my big one last year whilst it was a contender, not sure if it was slug damage, something must have punctured the skin.

That's exactly what's happened to me - the first one has stopped growing at 'grapefruit' size, but the 2nd, smaller one has now overtaken it and is still growing.

Who else still has a pumpkin?

The two i've got seem to be growing very slowly and with the forecast of a wet weekend coming looks like the slugs will be out in force again:gaah:

The one that's stopped growing (+ getter darker and losing it's shine) and is now destined for curried pumpkin soup:

and 'Plan B' (still light, glossy & growing):

Mine is about the size of an Orange now.

So it's only me, Scrungee & lolimac left in the running? Anyone else?

hip hip hooray, got another one that rotted inside, well saved the seeds and i stamped on it, think the 42 oc is way too hot, thats the temeprature when i first started the car up even though i have a sheet on it the temperature then dropped to 37 oc

got a couple of smaller pumpkins, think they will rot before halloween

one other somebody tried to nick it and as they broke it at the stem part, aslo started to rot, they rot very quickly to mush anyway the plants is almost dead now

                  good luck with your pumpkins
