Talking of sparrers takes me back to my days working as a 'barrer boy' in the East End of Lundun. :hehe:

    You probably know this poem

We â??ad a bleedinâ?? sparrer wot
    Lived up a bleedinâ?? spaht
One day the bleedinâ?? rain came dahn
    Anâ?? washed the bleeder aht.

Anâ?? as 'e layed â??arf drahnded
    Dahn in the bleedinâ?? street
    â??E begged that bleedinâ?? rainstorm
    To bave â??is bleedinâ?? feet.

But then the bleedinâ?? sun came aht
    Dried up the bleedinâ?? rain
    So that bleedinâ?? little sparrer
â??E climbs up â??is spaht again.

But, Oh! - the cruel sparrer â??awk
    â??E spies â??im in â??is snuggery
â??E sharpens up â??is bleedinâ?? claws
Anâ?? rips â??im aht by thuggery.

Jist then a bleedinâ?? sportinâ?? type
    Wot â??ad a bleedinâ?? gun
â??E spots that bleedinâ?? sparrer â??awk
    Anâ?? blasts â??is bleedinâ?? fun.

    The moral of the story
    Is plain to everyone...
That them wotâ??s up the bleedinâ?? spaht
    Donâ??t get no bleedinâ?? fun.

Last year I tried to come up with an idea for a solar powered heating element that could be placed in bird baths etc to keep the ice off.

This thread has reminded me to get my backside into gear and make it!:o

Yesterday I soaked bread in home squash soup for the birds and put it and soon as was covered in snow.

Today I keep nipping out with porrige oats for the birds hope thats ok for them even the birds are sucking the icecles for water as water is frozen and keeps freezing.

Sunpeeking through and still it snows.

Dont forget the old folks too keep a check on them.

Strangely with this arctic weather there haven't been many sitings of Fieldfares or Redwings, perhaps we need a longer cold spell.
Plenty of Waxwings about although not down here.:(

A pair of jays are now regular visitors to my bird table - not bad for a little town garden which backs onto a massive block of flats! They do look slightly disgusted with things, like a pair of aristocrats who are a bit shabby and down on their luck but still very much on their dignity. The cockney sparrows keep out of their way. They know their place.

Good to hear we are all trying to keep our birds fed & watered...:thmb: Well done everyone I think they really appreciate out efforts this weather.... :thmb:

Daisees you are in a predicament with your footwear.... How about this combo though...... Tuck your trousers in your sock...... Put your feet into carrier bags & put elastic band around the tops.. Then put your shoes on... :hehe: Might not keep the shoes dry, but it does keep you dry...!!!!!!:yho:
