I have to design a garden, and as part of it I have placed a herb wheel at the back. Is this a good idea, as it will not catch as much morning sun in that position (though the sun shines at the back of the house on afternoons.) Also, is it practiceable to place the herb wheel in the centre of a garden full of wildflowers, in the style of of a "wildflower meadow?" I have drawn it so that the space around the wheel will just be bare soil, the rest of the circular garden will be planted with wildflowers. Would these run the risk of invading the wheel?
This is a hypothetical question, based on an academic project I am doing, rather than a real life one.

Hard to say anything without seeing the actual plans, but I guess you want your herbs to get the full sun 'hypotheticly' and I think the herbs as a centerpiece of the wild flower meadow is a good idea, the flowers wont take over, especially if the garden is maintained

I'd say that the herb wheel needs to be accessible, so you will need a path to walk to it over the bare earth without having to put on wellies. Also the closer to the house the better so its quick and easy to pop out and pick some whilst you're cooking.

Thanks for your replies. I've moved the herbwheel to a south-east facing position near the back door; decided to extend the size of the garden to stretch all round the side of the house - as you can when it is imaginary!
