Not a good sign - all this low night temperature stuff.
It'll sort out the men from the boys alright,

Down to 5 deg with us too. The fruit on mine hasn't grown at all (probably hasn't set), but the main leader and leaves are getting big now.

I've been down to the plot this morning, first time in about a fortnight and I've taken the following two shots of my pumpkin..

It went down to 5.2 deg C in a temporary pop-up in my garden on Friday morning and my veg plot outside the village is normally a few degrees less. My pumkin plant looked OK when I checked on Friday as I was leaving for a long weekend away (just had to check/feed it), but I'm off to check it again shortly (flippin chilly on Dartmoor yesterday morning! - I hope it's been better back home).

That was 5 days ago and it's now:

But an increase of only 1" in girth per day is a pretty poor rate of growth.

          Hello all
I'm a bit late to the party, but better late than never.

Planted several types this year, mainly from saved seed. One is getting pretty big, 12" from side to side and 8" from top to botton, not huge but big enough.

Not read this whole thread through yet, but IMO, not been very good for pumpkins this year?

Mines still increasing in girth by only 1"/day, and according to my calculations that's only 5%/day increase in weight, so with these chilly nights and possibly only another 2 - 3 max weeks growth left it's obviously not going to be a biggun, so I'll change the feed to make it ripen (skin harden) so it'll store until Halloween.

That's the spirit! You'll get to know by the shape, colour and amount of 'shine/gloss' on small pumpkins as to whether they're 'goers' or not and whether to make them into soup before they shrink/rot.

Once again, despite being affected by several nasty afflictions + that awful weather, my marrows have outperformed pumpkins (and they take up less room and taste better), but I'll still go for a biggun next year. I can still remember the looks on drivers faces as I pushed my wheelbarrow back home with a pumpkin as heavy as my daughter in it (who'd get upset as there was no room for her!).
