We recently bought this rather nice.. and rather large (which we certainly payed for when carrying it in) tree. However, we're not sure how much water to give it and since I don't know the species I've no reference for what conditions would be suitable for it.. including sunlight and soil.

To my very untrained and unexperienced eyes, the leaves look like it might be part of the ficus family?

    Hello Bigyouth

Oh, that is lovely, I would have it in a moment ...

... and yes, I would say it is one of the Ficus family and someone more experienced than I in indoor plants will come along and tell you exactly which one it is.

    I am jealous .. :wow:

That's a fairly compound leaf, so I'd not go Ficus.
My first thought was Radermachera, but on close up I'm not so sure.

I have Ficus Benjamina, but something's telling me your plant isn't a Ficus Bigyouth. The leaf layout on the stems isn't the same.

I'm struggling with this, but we have to bear in mind it is in Hong Kong.

There are some substantial differences between me and the UK let alone far afield and that tree is very old as is the OPs other plants.

    Hong Kong?
Then I'm kind of going with my first guess Radermacheria sinica, a tropical Chinese tree.
Looks to me like an older specimen, which has been cutback hard to produce fresh new growth, and probably not grown originally in that pot.
we get them sold as house plants over here, but they are usually basically seedling plants.
