children in the uk spend nearly 5 billion between them. the average child gets £13.18 a week -£6.84 in pocket money and £6.34 from gifts, part time jobs and doing chores. the london school of economics and 02 money say the average child will spend more than £6,000 between the ages of 7-15 yrs. girls splash twice as much on clothes and shoes than boys!!!!. things dont change!!!!
all my clothes are in a cupboard!! the wife has 3 fitted wardrobes !!! .

There was a statistic a while ago about how much parents will spend on a kid by the time they are 18. I can't remember the exact figure, but it was somewhere in the region of £20,000.

I heard it was the price of the average semi detached. Mind you, that was before the recession.

How does that equate with the two bob a week I got  - and that was only if I did my household chores :hehe:. Had to share the washing up with my sister, make my bed, keep my room tidy, first thing in the morning stoke up the fire or make up a new one and put the ash out while mum got breakfast, dad got ready for work and sis laid the table and did whatever girls do in the morning :)

I also got paid a shilling for cleaning the car but if I didn't clean it I had my pocket money stopped. How's that for and incentive? :)

My son won't be getting pocket money for nowt. When he gets to an age where he wants pocket money, he can earn it. I don't want him growing up thinking that money comes from thin air.

And as for grand parents having to fork out so much, my grandad was very generous, but even he made me work for my money (except for Christmas and birthdays). If I was saving up for something I'd tell him what I was saving up for, and he'd put me to work. One time when I was in my early teens I wanted a new mountain bike. My paper round went some way to helping me save up for it, but not enough. I told me grandad and he led me round his house looking for jobs, then said "the woodwork in the bathroom is looking a bit shabby, there's a fiver in my pocket for the first person that finds the old paints in the gas cupboard and sorts it out". After a couple of hours work he gave me a tenner, and I was well pleased.

And then it is probably higher after that. Many go on to university, they have to have a computer etc and there are no grants anymore. My youngest has done his degree and has a big student debt (loan) but now has another 2 years to do at postgrad level ( he is an architect). Not much chance of him being able to earn any money with the amount of work he has to do so its down to Mum and Dad. It has been a slog but it is amazing what he produces....that reminds me the latest purchase was an A3 printer....not cheap.

hi marley farley.you mention a lop sided wardrobe . i remember when the wife and i were just building our nest (first house) we had very little, to say the least.
my mother in law had given us a single wardrobe. one of my friends had a van, so we went to pick the wardrobe up . as we came down the stairs with the wardrobe my father in law finishing his work, met us on the stairs"want a hand lads?"he said ,no its ok william we can manage.we loaded the wardrobe into the van.
next day william said to me "i did not know that that was my wardrobe"

now you see it now you dont!!:yho: families love them music.
