I brought some tulip bulbs 3 weeks ago and have kept in loft where it is cool dry and dark as it has been too wet to get out into the garden to plant. On checking them today they have gone a bit mouldy will these still be OK to plant or should I throw them away? :cnfs:

A small amount of mould on the outer skin, which is dead, shouldn't be a problem. But mould of the inner bulb, which needs to be alive, will be.

Plant them you have nothing to lose.

they probably have botrytis allii, its a fungal disease, its not good, if your not a proffesional gardener and cant get a hold of fungicides use hormone rooting powder it has fungicide in it, put 3 bulbs in a sealable bag at a time and put some hormone rooting powder in and shake the bag but make sure to keep powder in bag its not good for your health to breathe it in. shake untill bulbs are covered take one bulb at a time and shake excess dust off and store in a warm, dry place for 2-3 weeks and that should sort your problem.

You could always use athletes foot powder - that has a similar fungicide. :D - and you can use it for your cuttings too!

All this rain is a nuisance. I'm still waiting to plant my tulips but the ground is saturated. It does say it will turn cold at the weekend, so maybe we'll get a window of fine, cold weather at last and then I'll be able to rush out and plant them.
PS: I've checked and the bulbs are still okay, although some are starting to sprout.
