Please Help - Laying Turf -What do I do next?

    {Want to lay turf after I have sorted it out}
    I have not long moved in to a house and the garden was destroyed don't know what they have done to it,they have throw concrete over the ground and there are weeds all over -

    I have have picked up all the concrete and got all the weeds etc up it now looks like this-

    thre is the odd weed around could anyone tell me what I need to do next,before I get some turf layed?

    It needs digging over (or rotorvating). Same preparation whether you sow grass seed, or turf, so unless you need to be able to walk on it through the winter seed would be cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and give you a wider choice of the types of grass (bowling green vs. football pitch for kids; full sun vs. shade)

    It needs to be turf mate,would a electric tiller be anygood to do the job?

    I doubt it. If the ground is hard you need a man-sized one to open it up, in the first instance.

    Easiest would be to hire it. Make sure you get a self propelled one, rather than one that "moves forward" purely by the powering of the tillers.

    Self-propelled has driven wheels at the front, and the rotating tillers behind.

    Even so you may struggle to get it to go intot he soil, but mulitple passes, at right angles, will gradually go deeper - on successive passes.

    Or you can dig it of course, if you are young/fit :)

    You need to be aiming to cultivate the soil to 9" depth or there abouts.

      So after I have rotovated area,Would I rake it level then thred it flat?
