    1. Free street entertain provided by nutters:

    http://www.break.com/pranks/lady-loses-her-mind-in-nyc-2366683

    2. Running the gauntlet of beggars - every city has one. One street where every other person is either a pseudohomeless beggar, a representative of some cause requiring your £2 per week, or someone wanting you to devote your soul to some imaginary entity that is infinitely superior to the other bloke's imaginary being.

    3. Being able to buy anything I want. Anything. Anything at all. Though in my case it was usually just interesting foods that are hard to find outside of cities.

    4. Urban sprawl. Miles of it. If you fancy a change from looking at your local tarmac and concrete and brick, that's ok, go for a drive, for an hour and see lots more tarmac and concrete and brick.

I just thought I'd share that with you all:)

I was born in a city, but joined the rif raf when 16ish [another story] and that introduced me to the countryside................that's the place for me. I could not live in a city now for any price. I drive into cities now and shudder, feel cramped in, and have a urgent longing to get the Hell out of there.:heehee:

No not really. I've done my bit. I spent nearly 11 years in a city. All out of my system now:)

Grew up in a city, although a small one.

Hated it, just needed to be in the country.

Oi, leave my city alone! ;)

It may be small but it's beautifully formed

To be honest I don't like the hustle/bustle of cities, pertculary during the summer when they are packed with tourists - or this time of year it's herds of students.

I really miss Sundays before shops were allowed to open, it was lovely to walk through city centres in peace.

I wouldn't want to live too far from a reasonably big town (maybe ten minutes by car) because for my style of life it is much more rewarding and practical.
I am not even sure that i am desperate for a garden. Well I am desperate, but not for a garden...

I've got to buck the trend. Grew up in a big northern city, lived in London, now back in a big northern city. would never not live in a city

Public transport, things open after 4pm, cultural diversity, entertainment, theatres and bars.

Plus in the city I live it doesn't take very long on foot before I can be in a wildlife reserve where I don't see a single soul. Even in London I could be in a pleasant green space where I probably wouldn't run into anyone.

Visiting small places is very pleasant but I just could not live there!

I was brought up in the country and was among 'proper' country people. It's fair to say people had it hard in the country pre-war but times. How times have changed. Families from my village that had been there for generations have gone. Their little cottages have been bought for vastly over-inflated prices by people who have no idea about country life.
They commute to their work in 4x4's they don't need, complain about the smell and the fact that they cant get broadband.
Oh! and the next time i'm in the Mainwaring Arms and some geezer decides to keep me waiting by paying for his drinks with a debit card gets a Ferret shoved down his pants!

Always lived near a large town or city. Lived in Manchester, Cardiff, London twice - loved it at first but it's a very isolating place. Moved to Coventry (apologies to anyone who lives there, but it's a dump), then back to London for a few years which I hated, then moved back up north to Manchester. Manchester is a few miles away from me and I very rarely venture into town, but it is a small city and quite cosmopolitan, so you can get what you want without the zillions of tourists in London.

Having said that, I'm starting an interim job in Manchester city centre tomorrow and I'm really not looking forward to the travelling (parking is horrendously expensive so will have to get the tram and public transport freaks me out because you're in such a confined space with lots of strange people, shudder!). :wallbanging:

I would like to live somewhere more rural, but I wouldn't like to be more than 15 minutes drive away from a nice town which has good amenities. I would either like to go back to Wales from whence I came, or else live near Stockton Heath in Cheshire as I used to work near there and it's lovely, or else on the west side of the Wirral, which has some lovely places.
