Hi peeps. My lovely s-i-l has got me one of these in memory of my brother/her partner. We have put it in a pot but I'm not sure where to place it. Googling it just seems to talk about putting it in the ground not a pot - will it be ok do you think? I will get a larger pot next year. I don't know if it is male or female cos it came from the Isle of Wight & obviously I didn't pick it and Sharon can't remember any details,:help:
I know it says it should be in a sunny area, bit hard up here in the north!! I want to do my best for this for my bruv & Sharon, any tips please?

    cheers

    Hi Borrowers

I've never grown a mulberry of any kind but I'm sure I've heard that the mulberry which is grown for its fruits bleeds badly if it's pruned. So if your weeping mulberry has the same characteristics, it could be difficult to keep it small enough to live in a pot. I think you'd be better off planting it in good soil, somewhere sheltered.

If you can't plant it in the ground borrowers then get the very biggest pot you can.. They are very hardy, but don't like exposed conditions.. Never never let it dry out completely in the summer.. Is it the white flowering one by any chance, slow growing to about 3m.? If it does grow to big you can prune them, but in winter when the sap has died down then rub some wood ash into the cut to seal it.. Any help.?

    Thank you.

Marley, I don't know anything other than what the hand-written label says, which is 'Weeping Mulberry. Alba'. I take it by the 'alba' that it will be white, but I don't know how big it will grow, whether it's male or female or anything. It must stand at least 6' now with the trunk maybe 7" round. Of course, there's only about 4 leaves on it just now:) It is double staked at the moment too. I've put it in the most sheltered spot I can find for now.

The trouble is, there really is no space for it out the back and at the front of the house again is only a small bit of lawn, with a great big 'tree' on the pavement overhanging the lawn anyway. I put the word 'tree' in brackets cos I don't know what it is, bad girl:) I only know the roots come up to the house, and probably under it too:(

So you see my predicament? I definately want to keep it but just wish in wasn't so big. Any more ideas please?

    Thanks again.
