    :) STOP PRESS.......

I just read in my paper that the BBC are trying to entice Alan Titchmarsh back to inject new life into Gardeners World.
Must be a good think I say.

I always used to refer to Alan Titchmarsh on other message boards when the topic came up, as "The Perennial plant-potter" as he seemed never off our screens.

Sorry, but in my opinion, it'll just become "The Alan Titchmash Show."
If you think back to the coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show, he seemed often treat it like his own comedy show and there was too much of him and "The King of Koncrete" Diarmuid Gavin. Titchmarsh only got the BBC "top gardening job" after the death of Geoff Hamilton, a far better gardener in every sense of the word.
Each to their own, but I dislike the "in your face" presenters of any programme.
Ratings are the only thing that matters to the BBC, they won't care if the quality of the programme doesn't improve, just that more people watch it.

Sounds like a "quick fix" at the licence payers' expense.

No-one will ever ever be able to fill Geoff Hamilton's shoes in my own opinion, he will always be the number one for me, but Alan will do at a pinch. Hoping still to see the return of Rachel and Sarah.

    Alan Titchmarsh is dull.

Bringing him back to "inject new life" into Gardener's World is like bringing back cart and horses to inject new life into the road network.

I really like Gardener's World. No to Titchmarsh, no to decking!

This is the BBC all over. It's all about ratings, that's why these days we get so much dumbing down. The BBC think this will attract more viewers. They'll even bring in unrelated content in the hope of interesting viewers who wouldn't be interested in the main topic, where's the logic in that?

The classic is the "new" Countryfile, less about the country and more about young people climbing, or swinging on ropes, paragliding, shooting rapids in canoes, in fact so much "activity" you could mistake it for a Tampax commercial.

There will always be 'those who love' and 'those who hate'
But those who dislike make a good point when they say that we can always have far too much of a 'good thing'
I recall when 'Terry Wogan' could do no wrong, and was on our screens day and night
Now he has just become a bit of a 'pain in the a$$'
I always enjoyed Alan and think that Gardener's World lost everything when he 'retired'
BUT .... if he is going to be on every other program that I watch then I say 'enough is enough' :)
It will be interesting to see what happens
Let them all not forget that for that sort of money I am prepared to take on the job, even if it means working one day every week :)

Bet it will boost the female audience. I saw him at Garderners' World Live once and there was a posse of minders keeping the ladies 'of a certain age' from mobbing him to death.
I think he was a good gardening presenter who knew his stuff. He has been wasted on these presenting jobs he has been doing. Its OK as long as they keep Alys and Carole. Just remember that a lot of the presenters know a lot more than they are allowed to show - the producers set the level of the show. Need to change the producers and bring back proper gardening.

Alan Titchmarsh is a time-served professional gardener with a confident and fluent presenting style. He knows his stuff.

I'll certainly watch GW again if he's on it.
