Plant or weed?

A nice clump of this attractive grass is growing in the garden here in Florida. I just dead-headed it today to prevent the seeds from flying all around.

However, I have seen it growing wild along the sides of the roads, so I wonder if it is a weed rather than a garden plant.

Looks great to me and if you want it - it's not a weed

 

Agree with you here, Lovage, that "a weed is an unwanted plant in the wrong place".

Am keeping it, just didn't want it all over the garden and would like to know what it is as i've never seen it in the shops.
