Our morning here has dawned bright and blue. It will make it easier for the older members of our little town. I think it will the same in London for her Majesty at the Cenotaph thankfully. I wish all of you good spirit and peace in your management of this memorable day today,
    Jenny

I watched it on television and sobbed. It's just so sad seeing the list of names of everyone lost since this time last year - it's far too long (even one would be)

        Blimey Nick,

You poor thing. You feeling ok now?

        Good turn out there though.

Major fail here, woke up a bit late but thought i'd still have time for a bath & put the whistle & flute on. Just got in the bathroom when I heard a bugle playing the last post right outside. They'd moved the ceremony to 9 O'clock:doh:

Didn't think i'd be appreciated in my dressing gown with a cup of tea & a cigarette in me mouth.

And I thought my feet were giving me gyp walking down to Church, the service and the walk back Folly Mon. I'd worn my heeled boots and it was a bit too long to be on my feet.
But that was nothing compared with your trauma this morning Folly Mon.
But, we both know it was NOTHING compared with what those that died for us endured. And their families, still in sadness after all these years. I hope you and Gail had a gentle afternoon,
                  take care tonight,
                  Jenny

In the village where I grew up, among the names on the war memorial are two that share my surname. It is the only surname which appears twice on that memorial.

These are the two great uncles, Arthur and Wilfred, who I never knew. Like me, they were gardeners.

On Remembrance Sunday morning every year I find a quiet job at the bottom of the garden. At 11 o'clock I pause and think of Arthur and Wilfred and of the sacrifice they made.

This is my way of remembering them. I do not forget.

My Great Grandfather is nothing more than a grid reference (Battle of the Somme); my grandfather married his daughter. (Sweet!)

My father survived WWII; as an inspiration, my brothers sought a military career ( and survived: ish!?) My eldest brother was awarded medals when he was barely 18yo for active service under NATO. He never saw his 40's :cry3:

War has a very profound effect both on the deceased (for which we remember) and for those who are left with lifelong scars (which, as a nation, we tend to "forget" - least said ;) )

But, the whole message of this memorial day is not simply about those who fought, or those who have sacrificed (and continue to do so to this day!); nor, those whose efforts were not considered medal worthy, yet still paid the ultimate price: it is about and above all, "courage"! Courage in the face of adversity! And that can still be applicable to today's world. Which only makes its sadder for those who gave the ultimate price in a war striven environment where "choice" was no an option!! Yet, it never underestimates ;)

God bless you all; whosoever your God may be.

I watched on T.V. and although on my own stood still and silent at 11am.

Nick I suffer with back problems and as long as I keep moving can cope it`s the standing still gets me every time. :old:
