Hello and welcome to GC. Sorry I'm not the best person to answer your question, as roses are not my area, put I dead head mine regardless of the time of year. Seems to do it good:)

We have a couple of proper rose gurus on here and I'm sure they'll be along in no time:)

JJ, as loli highlighted, we have a dedicated Roses forum.

I've just taken a very quick look and there is a thread called "Pruning of the Rose Family Reference Sheet" Hopefully, that may give you the answers you seek.

From experience, when I moved into this house 2 years ago, I had two resident roses. One was extremely overgrown, in shade, prolific heads and I set to work cutting it back just so I could walk the path! (June time). The other rose I did nothing with ... well, it was only a "stick". Two years on, still haven't pruned the stick - which has now developed to several sticks and still has a bud on it ready to bloom!

So, have a gander at the "pruning" reference sheet, when you get a moment, but do not panic if you haven't/can't do it right away: mine survived :heehee:

Hi Jj This only what I would do, my friend,my advice is to just tidy them up at the moment and them give them a good prune in Feb/March, By tidy up it means just remove the dead wood and old flower's at this time, and any thin branches and ones that will rub against each other:)
