    I'd have a stab in the dark at Firethorn, thought it was Sea Buckthorn at first but the berries are the rong shape:)

        I think you were right to start with 'sea buckthorn' but its variety eludes me. Thanks for your prompt reply.

          Pyracantha rogersiana (or angustifolia) for certain.. we have one here. They also like to grow in the wild.. they are from China I believe and surprisingly only frost hardy to -17C..

          Sea buckthorn would lose it's leaves by November so if this photo was taken in the last month, it will be Pyracantha, though they look similar, sea buckthorn has narrower, darker green, but slightly glaucus leaves.

            thanks steve, I can now rest easily and maybe take some seeds for planting out in the spring.
