    Many thanks.
last question i was digging a hole for the alder and found a large stone/bedrock about 8 inches down right where i wanted to plant it im not sure how wide it is or deep etc, theres enough hold to plant the tree but im just wondering if this will affect the tree roots when they grow?

The first one looks like about half of the young trees I planted on my land last winter. I planted half Hazel and half Crab Apple, but I didn't note which was which. The first pic looks like one of them though:)

Having had a closer look I`ll concede number 2 MAY be a Rosa Rugosa.:thumb:

Having a closer look I cant see any honeysuckle David:D

The only one I cant make my mind up on is No 1, I go with you on that David, looks very like hazel like, the purple new growth, hhmmmm.
No 2 is definitely a rose, and a bloody rose is a rose.
No 3, I go with Quercus, its got thorns,(the kind that form from short shoots) black thorn, or something very similar.

Can`t see any thorns on number 3, so sticking with Honeysuckle, or possibly Dogwood.
