Dont think Wilko's sale's cant be beaten for run of the mill stuff £90 worth last year and spent less than £30 and that was for a carrier-bag full of seeds most with use by 2014. :yay:

As much as I dislike fleabay, I would recommend Choice Plants.
I ordered just before christmas and they arrived yesterday, which was really good service!
Touch wood that they germinate as well...........

Trouble I have with sellers on eBay with a wide range of varieties is the difficult of "browsing". Short of going through every page, which is relatively tedious on eBay, or searching for a specific variety (easy) then I find it a PITA.#

Dunno about others, but my method of greatest despondency :) is:

        Look for a specific plant
Find one (or seed, whatever) on eBay
Decide I might as well buy some other items, to spread the carriage cost
Spend hours shuffling through other items sold by that vendor with very little productivity.

Maybe I should set up a gardening eCommerce site where you could just fill your basket from multiple vendors and it made it easy to select specific varieties [i.e. from the minimum number of vendors to reduce shipping cost]

(Its not quite the pipe-dream it may seem as I build huge eCommerce sites for a living ...)

On quite a few larger sellers you get an option to visit the shop which is then catergorized,i think you have to click on the sellars name to get the option kristen

Yes, thanks Joolz, I've spotted that. Tends to still be 100's in each category though.

Choice Plants (just as an example) has 450 in the perennials category broken down into A, B, C ... with up to 70 in each. If I wanted a specific one I would just do a search. Realistically I'd have to go through all the pages from A-to-Z if I was browsing as there is no "customers-who-bought-this-also-bought", or "Recommended companions" etc. Also no search for "5' tall with Red flowers" - all of which our eCommerce stuff would do out of the box.

How do other folk shop for seeds on seed catalogue sites?

          Page through the lot?

Would like to be able to search by "theme" (specific colour, or plant/soil type, height, season of interest etc?)
          Would appreciate "Recommended companions" ?

          Something else?

Try browsing a site such as Chilterns! Over 4000 products:roflol:

For me I start in rare/unusual/exotic. Next stop is climbers. Then L (for Lobelia) and S (for Salvia).
Much of the time I'm inspired by other people on forums, or certain blogs. OBG is a good source of inspiration for me too. Then there is Flickr.

I would appreciate a section titled "Has not got daisy like flowers" though! Pet hate of mine.

So you'd need to find an Aster on such a site, and then that site have a feature for "People who bought this did NOT also buy" :)

I like many usually use Thomson & Morgan, Mr fothergills, Plant world seeds, Chiltern seeds, wallis seeds and a new one called Mr Ben seeds which i came across recently. I sowed some back last week and they have already started sprouting so no fault there. They also have the same name as me so that's cool :yahoo:

Was looking out some seed suppliers just now and thought I'd add them to this thread in case of interest to others:

I have bought seed from both these Australian seed vendors (on Aussi eBay)

            kenni_koala_seeds http://myworld.ebay.com.au/kenni_koala_seeds/
            muzzadb http://myworld.ebay.com.au/muzzadb/

Seeds seemed to get here OK without being molested by customs! But YMMV of course.

Other sources of unusal seeds that I have brough from include:

            http://www.rarepalmseeds.com
            taste.ecrater.com
http://www.secretseeds.com (UK based, still trading AFAIK, but last time I looked their website wasn't doing anything [IMG] )
            GeorgiaVines eBay http://myworld.ebay.com/georgiavines
            Scampton Succulents http://scamptonsucculents.mybisi.com/

Other seed sellers I've used which may have Rare / Unusual things, but also have mainstream things, and I buy several things from each of them every year:

            http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk
            http://www.seedaholic.com
            http://www.plant-world-seeds.com
            http://www.rpseeds.co.uk
            Smartseeds http://www.ebay.com/sch/smartseeds/m.html
            ChilternSeeds.co.uk

                I totally recommend them!

                Looks interesting..................

                What does YMMV mean?

Here's one that I've used a few times and am more than happy with.................

I've used choiceplants as well never had a problem also used Chiltern seeds,
Will be having a good look at the Australian seed suppliers.
                Thanks
