There's a few things morally wrong here in my opinion, but probably not what most people might be thinking.

Those of us that eat meat, do so knowing that an animal died for us to eat it. A lot of people would be mortified if they found they'd eaten horse meat when they thought they were eating the flesh of a cow, but as a sentient creature, surely the cow has as much right to life as a horse?

    Another bit is this:

So because pig meat is processed in the same place as cow flesh, it is ok that pig meat ends up in the beef? Surely that highlights a major hygiene issue if surfaces are not being cleaned or hands are not being washed etc?

A much more plausible explanation of pig DNA being in the beef comes down to a lesser publicised piece of law. Next time you pick up some beef at the supermarket, look at the ingredients. You'd expected the ingredients to say 'Beef 100%' but usually that's not the case. Even if it is, the law allows for the beef to be inflated with water and animal protein extracts, usually from the bits of the pig that wouldn't sell, so were rendered down for some compound that is then injected into other meat products along with water, to make it look like you're getting more meat for your money.

Again, how come its ok to kill and eat one species but not another? There's good eating on a pig.

It's just been announced on the BBC that after an Irish Government test of Beef/Lamb/Pork Burgers that 10 out of 27 different brands contained Horse DNA. The Supermarkets selling them, unknown to them about the Horse DNA, range from Tesco, Aldi and some others! Now I know why I break into a canter after a meal.:snork:

If I start eating Hay with my Burger I'm going to get worried, plus I think I'll stay away from the Vets 'cos he carries a Humane Killer around with him.

I personally don't have a problem with consuming any species of edible animal (okay possibly people...) however I reserve the right to choose what I'm eating
