    Hi everyone,

We have just come back from a nice relaxing two weeks holiday and after logging on to our village Forum yesterday have seen that there has been a spate of Burglaries and attempted breakings to various properties in our village:(Luckily we haven't been targeted although some of you will know that we had our rotavator stolen from our allotment shed earlier this year that we have had to claim for plus we have had to have the caravan door replaced on our caravan due to some scrote damaging it when they broke into it last year.:(

On our village forum the members on there are queing up to buy one of those Smart Water kits where your postcode I think it is{not quiet sure}is in some sort of liquid that you can paint on to up to 70 items and if the painted items get stolen and then found on the perpetrators, they can be traced back to their rightful owner. On the forum the members were saying that in some cases where the items hadn't got this Smart Water on them then it was difficult to prove they you are the rightful owner of the stolen items and in many cases the stolen goods are handed back to the scrotes:mad:

Evidently from what I have read if you buy the kits from your local Police, then they are more expensive to buy than if you buy them through your local Neighbourhood Watch people.:)

I would like to know if anyone on here has brought one of these kits and if so are they worth the money.

Any advise would be much appreciated and Thanks for taking the time to read this:thumb:

kandy pleased you had a nice relaxing holiday but sorry to hear of the burglaries since you got back, ive not heard of smart water so sorry cant help you but im sure other members will of heard about it, ive had 2 letters from police when we got back telling us a lot of cars in our area have been vandalized so im a bit worried about our car being on the main road but really cant do much about it, iff it gets damaged touch wood it never happens.

I havent used it myself Kandy but I remember us getting a leaflet through the door from neighbourhood watch saying about there being a spate of break ins locally so in conjuction with the police they were offering these kits out to free to whoever attended a certain meeting on a certain day (was at work so didnt go).

I just wonder if maybe because of so many break ins the neighbourhood watch had managed to get the police to give out so many for free ? Might be worth a look in to maybe esp if they are quite expensive.

I understand the theory behind the smart water....but......it only works if someone is trying to detect it - so goods can be sold on to someone unsuspecting as well. We tend to use an engraver to engrave our info onto items of value - and we have stickers on our windows etc. stating this. I would think it would make our stuff less likely to get stolen in the first place - as the crooks are warned about items being marked, and then they can see the markings for themselves, virtually making the goods unsaleable.
