I love a good roast, and have one most weeks (usually depends on whether I am working or not) - just put a lovely bit of beef in the oven about ten mins ago in fact.

When I roast a chicken, I usually start with it in the roaster with the breast side down, that way the juices from the dark meat fall down keeping it moist, then I flip it half way through, you still get the brown roasted top. Or you can just leave it alone all the way through.

    Oh dear,
I'm salivating having just discovered this delicous thread. After a couple of weeks with virtually no meat and certainly nothing "naughty" like a roast.
So, in the oven as I type, is a roastabag with a half leg of English lamb + 2 quarters of onion and mixed herbs inside. The other half of the onion is now an onion sauce and the juice has been set aside to go in the gravy later. With roast King Edwards and parsnip pieces, brussel sprouts and some broad beans from the freezer.
All to be washed down with a Rioja Reserva 2007 which is winking at me with its cork out,
    can't wait....
    Jenny

Nice to see you back Jenny - we've missed you probably more than you have missed your roast; hope the lamb and wine are even better than you anticipate! :ccheers:

Just had my "Sunday Meal" I do find it difficult now to want to bother, cooking for one is so tedious, but on Sunday I make myself have a decent meal. Planned pork chop etc, but opted for, salmon ,brocolli spears and new potatoes, with a nice bernaise sauce.

Nice to see the traditional Roast Dinner is so alive and thanks everyone for contributing.

I am one of the lucky folk who has eaten mid day all my life. Dad worked nights for 30 years, mum worked mornings so it fitted in nicely. Then I worked shifts and now self employed and I make sure of a 3hr dinner brake.

On the odd time I have eaten a big meal at teatime it has leaf to an uncomfortale nights sleep.

 We have massive meals every night, but Sunday we often have cheese and tomato on toast mid day, realy scrummy.
I think my dear wife deserves a rest from cooking large meals one day a week.
I don't cook  ..........but I love food.

We have one most weeks through the Autumn, Winter and Spring not so much in Summer more meat and salad. I've been at work today so my wife is just about to dish me up roast pork, roast spuds, green beans, carrots, peas and yorkshire. It can't come quick enough I could eat a scabby babby at the moment.

depends if the oven is clean...no-just joking. I have little rules in my lifeand that includes what to eat at weekends.
